Food, no stinking food, not even stinking food?

Um, the food ‘crisis’ continues to get press. It is ‘unprecedented’ – the beginning of rationing and shortages. It’s the globalization game. Sign up to play.

This is how some would describe the current state of things:

“The major mills across the country are using words like ‘rationing’ and ’shortages’ if things continue,” it said. “We will sweat out the summer together, hoping there will be some flour left to purchase at any price.”

It’s not something a $80 an hour or 200k a year US worker would be that concerned about, but it is what a minimum wage employee, or $15 dollar an hour employee would notice. The rise in prices tied to the multitude of factors the world is experiencing is setting the stage for new thoughtfulness on modernized life.

Is corn bio-fuel the answer? What about hydrogen. That doesn’t depend on food crop stuffs. Any what about hydrological? Water, fresh water will soon lead to water wars, some would say this is what is actually behind the ‘middle east conflict.’ Syria and Lebanon, the Palestinians, they want the water and fertile land in or under Israel’s umbrella. And it’s not just there. It’s throughout Africa and South America, even Between the USA and Mexico. China and India. The water supply is just as important as the food it produces.

As designers, Creatives are in a unique position to help find Visual communications to help explain these concepts. Not to just post a letter or a simple computer print-out to explain to consumers why the price of bread and eggs and milk has risen –– But to actually communicate the NOWness, the immediacy of the state of the world from a food and daily usage perspective. Not everyone drives, ok, so paying for a tank of gas might not affect you. Right, but a 25percent rise in the price of a sandwich is understandable – to pretty much anyone.

A gas pump is pumping your sandwich into a car. Cows and standing with only 3 legs. Corn is dripping into a lake - the lake is at a low level.  I am thirsty, but there is not water to drink. I am hungry, but there is no corn to eat. My car has half a tank. It is corn and water that propels me down the highway. What a tasty breeze that flows over me.
